On Thursday, March 28, 2028, we had the privilege of participating in the 6th edition of Agricité, an event organized by the teachers and students from the Agricultural Techniques programs at La Cité College. Under the evocative theme “Agricultural Health, from Head to Toe,” this gathering was a real opportunity to explore the crucial issues related to modern agriculture.
Exciting discussions focused on various aspects of agricultural health, including soil health, resilience of agricultural communities, and the future of the workforce. A highlight of the event was the presentation by Dr. Amir Georges Sabongui, whose captivating and humor-filled speech offered us unique perspectives on managing stress and both personal and professional challenges.
A detailed analysis of soil conditions in parts of Ontario, based on previous research, was presented to us by Sébastien Belliard of OMAFRA. Additionally, professors from La Cité College, Simon La Chance and Philip Lavoie, addressed relevant questions from students, contributing to a deeper understanding of the topics discussed.
The event ended on a high note with a panel discussion featuring local producers. Lucie Rioux, Advisor at JMP consultants, shared essential practices for promoting and maintaining soil health, followed by a lively discussion led by producers Sandra Clement and Thomas Vinette, who shared their respective experiences on their farms. Nadia Carrier, Agro Economist, brilliantly moderated the discussion, posing pertinent questions that enriched our understanding of contemporary agricultural issues.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to La Cité College for their kind invitation, providing us with the opportunity for learning and enriching exchanges.
